Revegetation, pollution and pest control programs to rejuvenate our river system are things that the government should invest in and support Warrandyte to maintain clean water for the Yarra River. Ecotourism should be promoted not just for revenue but also for the environmental awareness of Victorians.
With rapid urban development at Ringwood, Croydon, Nunawading and Eltham, the five-way junction is much busier and is becoming a traffic hazard. The situation can be improved easily by developing a reasonable strategy to control the flow of traffic entering the junction. The bureaucratic response of monitoring the situation until it becomes a priority issue does not help solve the immediate concern of residents. Making political propaganda does not solve the problem
The concept of Green Wedge should not be shaped by the local council’s Green Wedge Management Plans. The State government should take greater leadership in formulating an overarching and comprehensive policy. However, up till now, nothing has been done as reported in the 2021 state government review. As a local MP, I shall push the government to be accountable
CALD communities are developed around various parts of the Warrandyte electorate. The culture of new residents participating in the local community should be encouraged. My launching of the Chinese Park Victoria awareness project to encourage residents of Chinese background to participate in the Anderson Creek Landcare program was a great success. The State government should provide funding to support such programs
Budget for local MP “newspaper” as branding promotion should be better used to support local newspapers like Warrandyte Diary, N&M Bulletin, Manningham Life, Sameway Magazine, etc. State government should invest advertising budget into local media that have a more significant function in connecting people than virtual search engines and online social media, associated with disinformation and reinforcing self-isolation from society
Agri-tourism is NOT just a concept but a focus of development in Warrandyte. The state government and the local council should support locals to promote Warrandyte as an art and culture stay-away destination in Melbourne. Newcomers to this State will need to learn the concept of Green Wedge as non-urban support to metropolitan lifestyle.
Last donation 1w agoThe 2009 Black Saturday reminds us the importance of bushfire awareness. With many new residents in Warrandyte adapting to the new environment and lifestyle, bushfire education is a priority. Residents, especially the new arrivals, must be educated and prepared for possible natural disasters and responding strategies related to living in a nature-rich environment. I shall advocate government support for innovative programs in building our capacities to handle natural disasters.
